Memory Beads

A close friend recently lost her horse, Scooter, to colic. Anyone who loves animals can understand how painful this can be. In Scooter’s memory I wove a necklace out of his tail feathers and leather cord. I created a focal pendant, incorporating some of his hair into the molten glass as a ‘memory’ bead. Although it certainly can’t replace Scooter, Kelly was thrilled to have a wearable memory of her friend. Shortly after, she brought me tail feathers from other friends’ horses with a similar request. I’m still experimenting with the best ways to integrate organic material into the glass making process. Should this develop into a more permanent part of my repertoire, I plan to forward a portion of the proceeds to our local horse rescue operation. It only seems fair.
